Our Story
The Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation, Inc. begins with a life—a bright, joyful, determined life named Jasmine Rayvon Phillips.
Jasmine’s journey with sickle cell disease did not define her. It was her strength, her laughter, and her unshakable spirit that told the true story of who she was. A beautiful young woman whose eyes lit up every room she entered, Jasmine carried a quiet strength—her eyes often speaking the words her lips never had to say.
On June 13, 2014, just 24 hours before her little brother’s high school graduation, Jasmine’s earthly battle with sickle cell disease came to an end. She was only 20 years old. That day forever changed her family—but it also planted a seed. Out of deep grief, love, and purpose, a mission was born.
In the fall of 2014, that mission took its first form as “Jasmine’s Eyes.”
It began as a vision to see the world the way Jasmine did—with compassion, courage, and determination. “Jasmine’s Eyes” became the first step in carrying forward her legacy and shining a light on those living with sickle cell disease.
After years of research, paperwork, refining the mission, and undergoing name changes, that vision grew. What started as “Jasmine’s Eyes” matured into something larger, stronger, and more far-reaching. Ultimately, it became what it was always meant to be:
The Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation, Inc.
On December 12, 2016, the foundation officially came into existence—carrying Jasmine’s name, spirit, and purpose forward under the leadership of her little brother, Ja’Quan R. Phillips, with his family right by his side.
Jasmine was not just a patient living with sickle cell SS; she was a vibrant, driven young woman. As a proud member of the award-winning Envy-Us Steppers and an active participant in multiple activities, she proved daily that a diagnosis does not cancel destiny. To her, sickle cell was an obstacle—not a limitation.
Her motto still leads us today: “I have Sickle Cell; it doesn’t have me.”
Today, the Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation exists to ensure that no warrior feels alone, unseen, or unheard. We are committed to:
lifting warriors and caregivers
educating communities
providing support, resources, and hope
empowering youth and young adults to pursue their dreams boldly
Her life lit the spark.
Her legacy became the mission.
Her eyes—Jasmine’s Eyes—still guide the work we do.
The Jasmine Sickle Cell Warriors Foundation, Inc. stands as living proof that from heartbreak can rise healing, from loss can rise legacy, and from one warrior’s life can rise a movement of hope for generations to come.
